Elle UK – July 2011: Steel Magnolia

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. ELLE Style Awards Model of the Year. Victoria’s Secret Angel. Pirelli Calendar’s Miss January. Burberry Prorsum campaign star and now actress in a mega-Hollywood blockbuster. The 24-year-old Devon girl talks about living in Hollywood, making movies and that body.

It’s 9am and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is lost in the garden of The Beverley Hills Hotel. ‘I am such a dork,’ she says as she finds her way to ELLE’s Avril Mair for the interview. She’s wearing a brand-new Burberry biker jacket, skinny jeans, battered Isabel Marant suede boots and a tight flesh-toned Alexander Wang top. Her dirty blonde hair is tousled and she’s wearing just a touch of make-up. After ordering breakfast – scrambled eggs, spinach, bacon, a stack of pancakes, orange juice and a coffee (yes, really) – Rosie reveals the secrets to her success and considers her transition from normal Devon girl to top model and now Hollywood movie star.

Rosie on ambition: ‘I’ve worked every day since I was 16 years old. I’ve tried to stay on the straight and narrow, I’ve tried to be professional in every way. I have really dedicated myself to my career.’

On acting: ‘I realise what people think. But that can’t affect my life or my choices. I haven’t claimed to be an amazing actress. I want to work, that’s all. I want to pay my bills and make my family proud.’

On her body: ‘I can’t remember a time where I really battled with my body, but I can remember being asked to lose weight and battling with the advice. It hurt me. You can get bullied as a young model.’

On Hollywood pressures: ‘Recently, I had a dermatologist tell me to try Botox. I’m 24! I just laughed. You can really get carried away if you want to - it’s important to see beyond the bulls***.’
